March 8, 2014, 9:51 AM Day 5 More work laying the floor. I decided to the lay the floor of the porch perpendicular to the rest of the floor. This is the only part of the floor that would be exterior (in a real house), so this makes a little bit of a distinction. The horizontal seam between the horizontal and vertical sticks will be the threshold of the door, and I was very careful to get it very straight. The two seams on the sides are situated so they will be under the walls and therefore hidden. Another benefit of laying the porch floor horizontally is that it makes a very clean exterior edge. Every other edge piece around the house will be completely covered, but that short space at the edge of the porch will be visible as it is. Note that some of these shots—and especially this one—are shot at a wide angle to get it all in, but that distorts the image. The real thing is more straight than it looks in this picture.
